I don't know how many people share my love-hate relationship with ants.
I thoroughly enjoy watching them go about their daily business.
I love deliberately dropping crumbs so I can watch them go ecstatic.
I know whenever there's a new family of ants in my room.. and also where their entrance/exit is.
I am totally fine with ants living anywhere. We even have this new colony in the bathroom.
But..
I hate it when they choose a random spot as their burial ground and dump all the dead ants there. My kitchen has one such spot and it looks really gross. It looks like a whole pile of soil, but when you look closely, those are dead ants. Ugh.
I hate it when they bite their way through into my cereals or any other food, for that matter.
I hate it when they intrude my hamster's space and steal her food.
So anyway.. I'm sure you all know that type of flying ants that hover around lights and then eventually end up on the ground. They will lose their wings while they go and find somewhere to start their new family.
I hate that kind of ants cos they are smelly thingys.
So that day, I saw like at least 5 of these DEAD near my bags with their wings all around them. Ugh. Gross shit.
Then the next day, I happened to see this interesting scene in my room.
This tiny ant belongs to a colony in that corner of my room. Look at it attacking the big flying ant, which has already lost its wings. It tugs and tugs, inflicting pain to the bigger one cos it's in their territory.
Sorry the video is really blurry but you can see the ants. Two of the smaller ones in the background were trying to look for the enemy but they never made it. Several smaller ones did pass by the fight but just turned the other way and went off. I guess those aren't the soldier ant types and so not in their league to fight?
Like after a 30 minute fight, another small one came and yanked the little fighter off the big ant. I think the small ant might have died or going to die. Sigh. I was rooting for the small ant though. :(
