I've been back to Germany and WW2.

Yah right.
It's really just the movies I've watched.
During WW2: Sophie Scholl - The Final Days
After WW2: The Reader

Sophie Scholl - The Final Days
I loved it. Just like how I love true stories, I love war stories even more. I don't know why but I am particularly attracted to books and movies on wars. This was in German and that leads me to say that I also love foreign movies. Haha seriously, I loved the show. The whole movie period spanned only over a few months maybe but it really depicted what I would imagine - the crazed Nazi brainwashed people who only believed in Hilter and his actions vs the ones "supporting the enemies", the traitors/betrayers. You know, I had this slight fascination with Hitler ever since Secondary School Elective History. He is amazing the way he indoctrinated majority of the Germans and made them make him like a god. That every thing he says and does is definitely, without a doubt, right and for the good of all. All, perhaps with the exception of the Jews. Weird discrimination I would say. I would make them part of the Nazi team since they're so smart and all. I guess he wanted to be the smartest.

The Reader
I didn't expect it to be a WW2 related movie. I only knew that Kate Winslet won the Oscars based on this show and I figured this must be good. And yes again, I loved it. It was a little on the lengthy side but it was really okay. Sex scenes aside, I thought Kate Winslet and David Kross as the younger Michael really had chemistry. I've never watched about a trial for the war crimes of the SS and it was refreshing. From the point of the people who carried out those acts, I changed my view a little. They could just be 'working' like as guards and what to do when you had to make space for the new women all the time. Maybe you should kill them, and maybe you should pick the sick and weak. I don't really see any warped logic behind this. I liked the part when Winslet asked the judge 'what would you have done'.
I put myself in the older Michael's shoes and I felt so awkward when they met at the prison. Like how can you look at an old wrinkly woman and know that your relationship with her is really a lover, sex partner, fuck buddy. Maybe he did love her but she's so much older and all wrinkly now.. How can you treat her as another old lady, as a friend, as her only friend and kin.

I liked both movies. I wouldn't mind watching them again. :)
