I've not been running. Blame the rain! Will try and run later though.
I'm up here cos I'm feeling very annoyed by all these workers' dormitories being built near our homes. Read about the Serangoon Gardens issue where residents are objecting to dorms.. how come I wasn't really informed that they were building dorms in JK?! I would have strongly objected too!
Before JK had the dormitory, we already had like so many construction workers hanging around our area, sitting on pavements at night, chatting and drinking beer.. and leaving broken glass bottles on the grass and pavements! Damn sickening, I tell you. Obviously, a young girl or an auntie would never feel safe right. You'll never know when they intend to rob you or rape you! The police probably doesn't bother about this, but I tell you, there are workers (probably illegal immigrants) living in the forested area like just across the road. We, the residents, have seen them walking out in the mornings and going back there in the night. Also, there is actually this path into the forested area, along the TPE. I've seen some running event being carried out there before so my own parents wanted to explore the path and they brought Belle for a walk there. About 10 minutes into the walk, they found themselves in the middle of some makeshift homes where at least 15 foreigners were staring fiercely back at them. Even my father felt intimidated and quickly motioned my mom to move out of the area. How many more 'villages' where such foreigners are living in, in there? Now with the dormitory, foreign workers are openly sitting on the grass patch area in between the road and Ju Eng Home, chatting and drinking beer.. probably also disturbing the Ju Eng old folks who want their sleep. Another popular spot for gathering is the big open grass area opposite the home, near the drain. They also hang around my house area, sitting on the pavement as they have since a long time ago. How can we feel safe here!
About my runs, I hate to run to SKEA cos there is some construction work being done there and obviously, I feel really uncomfortable having to run past the workers(who just stand outside along the road cos it's usually in the evening when I run), knowing that they're watching me. Ugh. Sickening!
So I can totally understand why the Serangoon Gardens residents are so upset about this issue. Security, safety and congestion bound to worsen. I'll hope for you people that the govt will find a better place for such unwelcomed residents in residential areas.
